"For us, our house is not insentient matter—it has a heart, and a soul, and eyes to see us with; and approvals, and solicitudes, and deep sympathies; it is of us, and we are in its confidence, and live in its grace and in the peace of its benediction. We never come home from an absence that its face does not light up and speak out its eloquent welcome—and we can not enter it unmoved."
—Mark Twain, 1896

Per un attimo

In an attempt to keep my mind off Ilva’s departure, I found myself in the garden today.
While there, my mind eventually cleared, and I was transported into my own little Zen.
Guilty thoughts about not having ‘visited’ with her enough faded, and the stress of those thoughts disappeared.

By the time she reads this post, Ilva will again be in Italy. Her visit will eventually be just a distant memory, but the bond that strengthened between us while she was here, caused us both to have a better understanding of who we are.

The impediment of our age difference and life-styles aside,
 we’ve always been sisters.
Now, we’re friends as well.
I miss you already.
