"For us, our house is not insentient matter—it has a heart, and a soul, and eyes to see us with; and approvals, and solicitudes, and deep sympathies; it is of us, and we are in its confidence, and live in its grace and in the peace of its benediction. We never come home from an absence that its face does not light up and speak out its eloquent welcome—and we can not enter it unmoved."

FIVE STARS for the Ranger's series

FOR the past several years, I’ve been reading many Young Adult books. John Flanagan’s The Ranger’s Apprentice is an epic fantasy series that never disappoints. The stories are set in the mythical land of Araluen, and follows the adventures of Will, a young boy whose only dream was that of becoming a warrior-knight, but instead was chosen to apprentice under the great and mysterious Ranger Halt. Will soon becomes part of a mysterious group of boys who act as the King’s eyes and ears through the skills they learned training to become Rangers.

In book 8 - when a religious cult calling themselves the Outsiders, invades Clonmel, people offer gold in exchange for protection. But there are battles to be fought to-the-death as Will and Horace help Halt set out in ridding the land of a dangerous enemy, while discovering that Halt has been keeping secrets.

I’ve been reading this series since the beginning and now I’m waiting the arrival of the ninth installment: Halt’s Peril, to be released in the US on October 7, 2010.

This is great story telling for young and old alike. Addicting.
