"For us, our house is not insentient matter—it has a heart, and a soul, and eyes to see us with; and approvals, and solicitudes, and deep sympathies; it is of us, and we are in its confidence, and live in its grace and in the peace of its benediction. We never come home from an absence that its face does not light up and speak out its eloquent welcome—and we can not enter it unmoved."
—Mark Twain, 1896

Percolations

I stumbled over this unusual YA book as I was sifting through book-blogs. As soon as I read the reviews, I knew I just had to get to know 14 year-old Walter Galt and his close knit friends. I knew I had to be a part of their autonomy and their night shenanigans.

So, armed with the name of the book and it’s author, I went in search of The Snarkout Boys, only to be disappointed when I found it at a hefty price. Undeterred though, and after several inquiries, I tracked a hardbound used copy published in March 1982 by William Morrow & Co. Apparently, this is a somewhat sought-after tome that has, over the years, developed a bohemian following. But there was a snag. The copy I found was an ex-library copy. I don’t want a library book, so I kept searching. I was just about to give up and buy the library book when I got an email from one of my feelers. “We found a copy of the book you are looking for.” it said. “Do you still want it?” DO I STILL WANT IT? Duh. YES. It seems they found a good used copy in a stack of other back-water books, just gathering dust. I'll be inside the adventure on Tuesday!
