This is a story set in a fantasy Victorian world, in a city known as Wellmet. Instead of gaslights, magical werelights illuminate the streets. Enter Conn, a young but expert thief who picks a Magister’s pocket and finds that he has stolen more than he bargained for when he discovers he has pilfered the Wizard’s source of magic.
After being with Holmes and Watson for a few nights, I am frightfully in need of a respite from problematical twists so I‘ve turned to this Young Adult Trilogy.
At first I thought this read would be too elementary and not at all on the level of the YA genre that I am used to. But then I couldn’t stop reading, and now I find myself in the midst of it, rooting for the underdog.
Antonio Javier Caparo’s illustrations add depth to the characters who are indeed characters, and makes the journey all that more interesting. Yes, I do believe I’m going to enjoy this one.

< Flavia will arrive on February 8. Riding Gladys, I'm certain. She has gotten herself involved with an old Gypsy woman, and stumbles upon another corpse, that of a notorious lay-about who had been caught prowling about the de Luce’s drawing room. She’ll be asking, no doubt, for my help, as the red herrings are piling up and dark and dangerous secrets have yet to unfold. I am ready.

> I’ll be going on a ride-along on February 22, as Peabody gets her first case as Primary. Teaming up with Eve and Roarke, we’ll be looking for clues that will lead us to the hard evidence we need to put two dirty fellow officers in a cage for corruption and murder. All the while knowing that the two are willing to kill again to keep their secret.
