Isn’t it interesting that the one place most of us tend to avoid is the here and now? Choosing instead to live in memories of the past or dreams of the future. These thoughts distract us from the true calling of life, and that of the spirit that dwells in the heart. The past is delusion (if only) and there is no reality in the future (what if), so why go there?
Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation (2 Cor. 6:2).
Living in the moment doesn’t mean we don’t prepare for the future or forget the past. Both, after all, are a part of what makes us who we are, but we just can’t dwell on either to the impediment of today.
To me, the simple act of living deliberately requires a spiritual discipline that I, in these last years of my life, am just now learning to enjoy. In living in the here and now, the erudition of just who Angela is, is slowly surfacing. I’ve missed so very much all these years by not living a purposeful life, always dreaming of what it could be, and regretting some of what it was that I completely missed what it is.
I do my best to live every day in it. To look around me and not only see the glory of God but actually be a part of it. I suppose this is easy when there is more past than future but then everything seems to reflect on hindsight. Shame isn‘t it? If you think about it.
