"For us, our house is not insentient matter—it has a heart, and a soul, and eyes to see us with; and approvals, and solicitudes, and deep sympathies; it is of us, and we are in its confidence, and live in its grace and in the peace of its benediction. We never come home from an absence that its face does not light up and speak out its eloquent welcome—and we can not enter it unmoved."
—Mark Twain, 1896

   *

Rows of colorful clothing flapping in a sunny breeze are becoming a common sight once again. At least they are in my neck of the woods.

I happen to love the clothes' line, and don’t get me started on wooden clothes' pins.

My mother, grandmother and aunts would always hang their laundry out to dry.

My father put up four long lines just outside the kitchen door,
and even in later years when she had a clothes' Dryer, my mother still hung our laundry on those lines.

 I come from a time where it was common-place to see unmentionables hanging outside.

Maybe I'm just odd, but I've always loved the sight of laundry on a line: shirts, dresses, socks, towels, sheets.
Have you ever slept between sun dried sheets?
Clean and crisp with such a wonderful natural fresh scent?

Now that we are all supposed to be 'green' and saving the planet, shouldn’t we be seeing more clothes flapping in the wind?
