"For us, our house is not insentient matter—it has a heart, and a soul, and eyes to see us with; and approvals, and solicitudes, and deep sympathies; it is of us, and we are in its confidence, and live in its grace and in the peace of its benediction. We never come home from an absence that its face does not light up and speak out its eloquent welcome—and we can not enter it unmoved."
—Mark Twain, 1896

Four stars if you're twelve....

This is a fable book. Pre-teens, with good reading vocabularies, will love this series.

Some of the children’s books I read, while written for children, are better suited for the adult mentality. I thought this would be a good series to add to my fantasy collection, and it would be if I were 12.

Whilst mom and dad go on a cruise, Kendra and her brother Seth must spend two weeks with their grandparents. Grandparents who just happen to be the caretakers of Fablehaven where mystical creatures gather: jealous fairies, plotting witches, greedy trolls and mischievous satyrs. Magic abounds ~  I love this genre of writing, but even though I admit to being somewhat spooked during the Midsummer Night’s Eve, most of the storyline was just too predictable for me. It would not be, however, to the more mature juvenile mind.

This was a three star read for the adult in me,
but a four star read for the child in me.
