"For us, our house is not insentient matter—it has a heart, and a soul, and eyes to see us with; and approvals, and solicitudes, and deep sympathies; it is of us, and we are in its confidence, and live in its grace and in the peace of its benediction. We never come home from an absence that its face does not light up and speak out its eloquent welcome—and we can not enter it unmoved."
—Mark Twain, 1896

A wet reception for April Devine!

Yesterday April Devine stepped over the threshold to take over for March who was none the less for wear, and more than happy to hand over the soggy reigns of placement.
Unfortunately, the Duchess of Spring is not going to give April a reprieve, as the winds continue to blow full force against the rain, with no end in sight.

I suppose it could be worse as this 1997 photograph by Philippe Huguen, of the wind-whipped waves against the port of Wimereux in France demonstrates.
