"For us, our house is not insentient matter—it has a heart, and a soul, and eyes to see us with; and approvals, and solicitudes, and deep sympathies; it is of us, and we are in its confidence, and live in its grace and in the peace of its benediction. We never come home from an absence that its face does not light up and speak out its eloquent welcome—and we can not enter it unmoved."
—Mark Twain, 1896

INTELLECTUAL AT FIVE STARS

Here in the Pacific North West, the days should be mild and pleasant this time of the year, but instead we are having much rain and gray days. Unrelenting rain. And, since it is impossible to play in the garden during a torrent of rain and wind, we are forced into hibernation, and discover other joys to pursue. Hence, the subject of movies.

The spousal unit came across a decidedly weird rendering of ‘Pulchinello’, entitled INK. Apropos to the original pen and ink drawings by Gianbattisa Tiepolo.

The character we know as Punch originated, it is believed, early in the 17th century from the Italian Pulcinella of the Commedia dell’arte. Anyway, I digress.

INK. A very interesting concept for a movie by Director and Screenwriter Jamin Winans, and one, I’m afraid, that will fly in the face of the non-believer. A fantastical dream world battle between father and daughter, this movie is a visual thriller that vacillates between the conscious and the subconscious, between the dream and the nightmare, and the invisible forces that exert dominion over both.

In my opinion, this is a well done urban Science Fiction Fantasy that manages to infuse truth (reality) with lies (stories). What do they say about a good liar? They manage to insert just enough of the truth to make the lie believable. In this case, reality and fiction.

Snippets of non-linear imagery creates a puzzle for the viewer to figure out what the heck is going on in the first part of the movie, but not to the point of distraction. A great sense of accomplishment for the viewer who gets it early on in the story.

Richly textured tale of multi-dimensional dream weavers and the master overseers of those dreams. This movie is not for everyone. Unique and refreshing. Goes right to the core of the psyche.

“There’s a bigger picture……..It’s all about the beat.”

Think outside the box on this one.
great intellectual drama *****
