Insomnia visits often, and like a good guest, usually knows when she’s overstayed and at some point during the night she’ll leave. Last night, however, Insomnia came for a visit and decided to stay alllll night long without so much as an invitation, mind you! So, when the phone rang at 10:30pm, then again at 12:45am (don't ask), I got right on it. I was even rude about it and stayed to chat a while completely ignoring my guest who didn’t even have the courtesy to leave the room whilst I was in a private conversation!Flip-flopping through a ‘movie’ that was replaying in my head, I began blaming my lack of Nicotine for the unwanted guest (the mind does have a way of tricking us into giving it what it wants, especially when we’re on no sleep). And no, I did not acquiesce.
I thought, as any host would, if I ignore this guest perhaps she’ll take the hint and simply leave. But no such luck. At one point, I actually left the room. Can you imagine? Walking out on a guest? I stayed down stairs, looking out the window and walking around in the dark. I sat in front of the computer, but my back was on fire so I couldn’t even 'surf' through the rest of the night. Conspiracy.
Normally, I would be out back smoking, relaxing. So you see the dilemma here. Not only am I adjusting to new routines, I also have to endure an insufferable guest.
Anyway, long story short, dawn lights up my room, I’ve finished reading my book, and my guest has disappeared. Guess I’ll get in a few cat-naps today, and lock-up early this evening, hoping I’ll be sound asleep before she comes tap, tap, rapping at my bedroom door again.
Oh, and by the by........I'll be turning off the telephone.
