"For us, our house is not insentient matter—it has a heart, and a soul, and eyes to see us with; and approvals, and solicitudes, and deep sympathies; it is of us, and we are in its confidence, and live in its grace and in the peace of its benediction. We never come home from an absence that its face does not light up and speak out its eloquent welcome—and we can not enter it unmoved."
—Mark Twain, 1896

Percolations

354 pages
Doubleday/First Edition hardcover
(September 5, 2006)

George Hall is a dignified hypochondriac who, after discovering a menacing ‘rash’ on his hip, begins to quietly and oh so politely go insane.

Mark Haddon (1962-) wrote The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-time, and this penning is a follow-up to that book. I remember, whilst reading curious incident, that I liked Haddon’s use of language and brilliant witticism used in the dialogue between his characters. So, if Haddon follows true-to-form, I’m going to like A Spot of Bother.

371 pages
Warner Books/First Edition hardcover
(September 29, 1994)

Bobby Darin (1936-1973)
Sandra Dee (1942-2005)

When I saw this book, I thought, ‘How on earth am I just now seeing this?’ Having gone into collectors’ status, finding an acceptable used copy that was economically feasible as well, was a bit of a dodge I‘m afraid. But patience won-out in the end, and I should have book in hand by mid February.

If you don’t know the back-story of these two amazing people, do yourself a favor …..
