"For us, our house is not insentient matter—it has a heart, and a soul, and eyes to see us with; and approvals, and solicitudes, and deep sympathies; it is of us, and we are in its confidence, and live in its grace and in the peace of its benediction. We never come home from an absence that its face does not light up and speak out its eloquent welcome—and we can not enter it unmoved."
—Mark Twain, 1896

my TBR stack

With the holidays looming, this is just the perfect time of the year to be in Bishop’s Lacey. Yes, it’s true. I’m with Flavia again.
While I was in Skandia, Flavia was waiting patiently in my *TBR stack. I intended to return to Desolation Road then hit Bishop’s Lacey on the way back, but I was a bit giddy after having sailed off on Hal’s skiff, so I decided a light read was in order.

Colonel de Luce has rented Buckshaw (the de Luces' decaying English estate) to an on-location film crew, with the exception of a few 'off-limits' rooms.

It's Christmastime, and Flavia is right in the middle of whipping-up a concoction to capture Saint Nick himself - to prove, once and for all to her older sisters, that he does indeed exist, when the movie-star shows up. And if that isn’t enough, as a heavy snowfall cuts them off from the rest of the world, the leading lady is murdered…….and Flavia (of course) gets right in the thick of the investigation.

I am Half Sick of Shadows
written by Allan Bradley
Delacorte Press
1st edition hardcover/November 1st, 2011

The Flavia deLuce series are stand-alone novels even though all the characters are the same in all four books, with only a few exceptions. So, if you want to ride along, any book in this YA series can be read in no particular order.
