I MUST HAVE COME ACROSS THese two BOOKs AS I WAS SCANNING MY FAVORITE BOOKBLOGS because I didn’t know that MS HANFF WROTE A SEQUEL TO 84. IN FAcT, SHE KINDA WROTE TWO: q AND Bloomsbury, however, only Bloomsbury is the (official) sequel.
The Duchess of Bloomsbury Street picks up where 84 left off. It’s a travel guide (of sorts), in journal form, through the streets of London. In this book, the reader meets Frank’s family. Frank being the book dealer in 84.
Bloomsbury, in my opinion, is just an ok read. 3 stars.

Q’s Legacy is interesting in that there is a bit of a back-story on the author herself, and the storyline circles the events that brought her to the years of 84.
While I am enamored with this author’s writing style, Q‘s narration didn’t hold my interest throughout. I found myself skipping over pages just to get to the best parts of this book: the story-line about Sir Arthur Quiller-Couch, aka Q .
For me, Q’s Legacy just barely trips over the 3-1/2 star mark.

84, Charring Cross Road is written as an Epistolary, and chronicle’s the author’s friendship with an Antiquarian Book dealer spanning 20 years. I read this book many years ago, and of course, I absolutely loved the movie version.
I almost feel like I don’t even have to say this, but 84 is a five star read.
