"For us, our house is not insentient matter—it has a heart, and a soul, and eyes to see us with; and approvals, and solicitudes, and deep sympathies; it is of us, and we are in its confidence, and live in its grace and in the peace of its benediction. We never come home from an absence that its face does not light up and speak out its eloquent welcome—and we can not enter it unmoved."
—Mark Twain, 1896

In Italy - looking up ..........

David Paleino, an Italian photographer, snapped these views of the total lunar eclipse from Italy. I couldn’t be there to watch it with you tonight, so I did the next best thing, I flew there in my magic machine.

Unfortunately, this lunar spectacle is not visible in the United States. This is the first of two this year. The next total lunar eclipse will fall on Dec. 10, and only parts of the U.S. including Hawaii and the Pacific Northwest will catch a glimpse.
