"For us, our house is not insentient matter—it has a heart, and a soul, and eyes to see us with; and approvals, and solicitudes, and deep sympathies; it is of us, and we are in its confidence, and live in its grace and in the peace of its benediction. We never come home from an absence that its face does not light up and speak out its eloquent welcome—and we can not enter it unmoved."
—Mark Twain, 1896

A 'Cover' that makes me want to read

Since 1990, I’ve been randomly collecting Robert Jordan’s The Wheel of Time series. I believe the first one I bought was Book Two, The Great Hunt. It was a Tor First Edition soft cover, and I couldn’t help myself. If memory serves, hit and miss these days, I found it at one of the Library sales put on once a year in the city I lived in at the time. I could fill a grocery bag, brown paper at that time, full for only $2.00. The Great Hunt was in one of those bags that day.

Ever since, as I stumbled over other books in the series, I’d think, why not? Part of the collection even though I haven’t read it yet. Right? Right. Over the years, my Robert Jordan library of Tor’s The Wheel of Time has grown to all 14 books published (includes the un-numbered prequel), to date. And then, in 2007, I read that Robert Jordan died. He was working on the final in what originally was planned to be only 6 books, and had left extensive notes for it‘s completion, …..

‘Oh hush….these readers don’t want to read all this minutia, and besides you’re starting to ramble.’

So, long story short, Brandon Sanderson, a fantasy author himself, was commissioned to complete the series. The last book will be released in 2012. Anyway, all this because this morning I saw this delicious ebook cover of the Towers of Midnight, and Holy Moly, it is astounding! Raymond Swanland drew the cover, and I’m thinking, Tor should have used Swanland’s art instead of the tepid covers we see on the hardcover releases.

The ebook cover has depth of emotion. Shivers, and I haven’t even read these books yet. Oh yeah you read right, collecting since 1990, one book away from owning the entire series, and I haven’t read a one. I most certainly will now, notwithstanding ....
