"For us, our house is not insentient matter—it has a heart, and a soul, and eyes to see us with; and approvals, and solicitudes, and deep sympathies; it is of us, and we are in its confidence, and live in its grace and in the peace of its benediction. We never come home from an absence that its face does not light up and speak out its eloquent welcome—and we can not enter it unmoved."
—Mark Twain, 1896

Without uncomfortable amazement

Josh & Veronica's tree
While we do take pleasure in looking at all that this time of year has to offer and partake in the happiness our children still derive from traditional fare, even from a distance, the spousal unit and I haven’t 'celebrated' the trappings of Christmas, in a dwindling descent, for many years. Not only is our nest empty now, but insight that only comes with maturity, whatever the age, defies in the face of the spell.

Today is not a religious holiday, as most would have us believe, but it is the hope of one. A time when family gathers around a table, and shares laughter, hugs and kisses, and general all around merriment. That’s really the only part of the day that I do miss.

For those who still celebrate and believe .... from our house to yours, the dude and I wish you joy.
