"For us, our house is not insentient matter—it has a heart, and a soul, and eyes to see us with; and approvals, and solicitudes, and deep sympathies; it is of us, and we are in its confidence, and live in its grace and in the peace of its benediction. We never come home from an absence that its face does not light up and speak out its eloquent welcome—and we can not enter it unmoved."
—Mark Twain, 1896

an inconvenient obstacle

There are times when that small part of us, the insidious side we hide deep, deep - seeps out into the atmosphere and mirrors itself onto others. It is not done intentionally. And even though it does not reflect the words we speak or echo the example we feel we live, there it is, out in the open for all to see. It is the undercurrent of the psychological desperation we all struggle to veil, an inconvenient obstacle. Something we even forget is there as we move along in our happy lives. Then one day, for no apparent reason other than the fact that it can, the undercurrent pulls us out and into the darkness no matter how hard we fight it.

Menacing the truth we append ourselves to, without our permission, without our knowledge, the dark side rears it's head. It is the nature of the beast. Everything that is negative is wrong: words, actions, deeds, thoughts…. The dark side manipulates the Word to alter the truth and create a chasm. It wants us to believe what it believes, but it deceives with just enough truth to create the illusion of belief. It's arrogance parades as humility.

So before you see that which is not there, determined to under-cut the love that only wants to embrace, send out the goodness from yourself. If not for yourself, for the children who see what you think they do not.

“……. In the kingdom of love there is no competition; there is no possessiveness or control. The more love you give away, the more love you will have." (John O’Donohue)
