I’ve been engrossed in painting the kitchen these past couple days, and for those who’ve never been here, you wouldn’t think this to be such a big deal, however, the Castorini’s (Moonstruck) kitchen pales in comparison. We have a farm-style kitchen, larger than some apartments I’ve seen.
It began innocently enough. I taped, and took down and cleared off, and removed old wall paper, and wiped down and swabbed and … Oi. Anyway, I digress. So, one of the prep. jobs I had to do was try to get the computer and phone lines away from the wall without unplugging anything. Ever see how many cords a computer has?
Ok, so the kitchen computer is NOT a lap-top. I’m an old dog.
What d’ya want from me?
Well, I thought I had it made. I was almost at the finish line and through the maze of once tangled cords, which I so adeptly untangled without unplugging, thank you very much, I discovered, to my horror, one last little-bittie-innocent-looking-tangled-cord that stood in the way of my paint brush and the wall.
Doomed.
I had no choice but to unplug it from the back of the Modem.
How hard could this be?
Unplug, untangle, re-plug.
Ok, so with all the prep-work done, I finish painting. I return everything back to it’s original shelf. Remove all the tape, and day turns into night. No problem, right? Beep. Wrong.
Ozzy starts barking. Don is on my stoop. What on earth is Don doing here? Don, for those who don‘t know, owns and operates the Main Street Diner, "Angela" he puffed as I opened the door, "Your family is beside themselves. Here, use my Cell and call Veronica right away. She thinks you’re laying dead on the floor."
I was perplexed. What is he talking about? Why would V call Don? But before I could say anything, "….. nobody’s been able to reach you since yesterday. Keith is frantic, and on his way home."
OMG! The innocent cord! Apparently, that one little-bittie cord was the phone line, and I had re-plugged it into the wrong receptacle. Geesh. From Texas to ‘Mayberry‘. I couldn’t hide if I wanted to.
What can I say. I love it here!
