"For us, our house is not insentient matter—it has a heart, and a soul, and eyes to see us with; and approvals, and solicitudes, and deep sympathies; it is of us, and we are in its confidence, and live in its grace and in the peace of its benediction. We never come home from an absence that its face does not light up and speak out its eloquent welcome—and we can not enter it unmoved."
—Mark Twain, 1896

Besotted with everything book and bookish

Before I go outside and mull about, I thought I’d share.
As most who know me, you know that I love everything literary,
right down to the crease on a dog-ear in a book that once belonged to someone else.
I also love Book-Plates, and have recently come across some with remarques.
Delicious.

For those who do not know what I’m talking about, a remarque is a small drawing or symbol that an artist adds near his/her signature.
Remarques are rare and, obviously, increases the value of any rendering,
including Book-Plates.

John William Jameson (1882-1939) used remarques more than any other American bookplate designer.

other Book-Plates ~

I’ve started collecting Book-Plates, placing them gingerly on the inside front cover of my books, and adding a little something decadent to each for the next owner to marvel and wonder about.
