"For us, our house is not insentient matter—it has a heart, and a soul, and eyes to see us with; and approvals, and solicitudes, and deep sympathies; it is of us, and we are in its confidence, and live in its grace and in the peace of its benediction. We never come home from an absence that its face does not light up and speak out its eloquent welcome—and we can not enter it unmoved."
—Mark Twain, 1896

Percolations

These are the books that have made it to the ‘Waiting to be Read’ stack, on my nightstand. I know. I. can't. help. myself! I think I'm pretty much set for the summer. Well........maybe not.

Ilva wants me to meet Thomas Covenant, so she sent him to me today. He arrived all nice and cozy, safe and sound along with his other 'friends'.

I took the liberty of reading 20 pages of Book One: Lord Foul's Bane, and then realized that I had better finish the books I already started before getting too far into this series. Hard to put down.....I'm already loving these books.

I was reading The Somnambulist by Jonathan Barnes, and had to put it down when The Prince of Mist by Carlos Ruiz Zafon arrived. I'm so fickle......... I just want to read everything at once!

"Some fall in love with women; some fall in love with art; some fall in love with death.

I fall in love with gardens, which is much the same as falling in love with all three at once.

For a garden is a mistress, and gardening is a blend of all of the arts, and if it is not the death of me, sooner or later, I shall be much surprised."

Beverley Nichols ~ 1st lines of Merry Hall (third book from bottom)

Well, these are my 'must reads' for the summer days ahead. Looks like I'll  be making some new friends.
