"For us, our house is not insentient matter—it has a heart, and a soul, and eyes to see us with; and approvals, and solicitudes, and deep sympathies; it is of us, and we are in its confidence, and live in its grace and in the peace of its benediction. We never come home from an absence that its face does not light up and speak out its eloquent welcome—and we can not enter it unmoved."
—Mark Twain, 1896

Percolations, and goodbye Flavia, for now.......

The spousal unit has uncovered, what appears to be, a delicious new series!
Fablehaven by Brandon Mull are fantasy books about mystical creatures. Just my cup of tea. Fablehaven is a secret sanctuary with gated woods, wherein live fairies, trolls, mischievous satyrs, witches, imps, and soon, very soon I will join them all!

In the meantime, tonight I finish book two in the exploits of Flavia deLuce: THE WEED THAT STRINGS THE HANGMAN'S BAG. For the past week or so, I‘ve been living in the 1950s where, once again, I am in Bishop’s Lacey, England, and tonight, Flavia and I set off together on Gladys (Flavia’s bicycle) one last time. I've come to like Flavia and the adventures we've shared: murders, poisons and the such.....

As expected, the writing is intelligent and witty, and Alan Bradley, par for the course, does not disappoint. A four star performance.
