"For us, our house is not insentient matter—it has a heart, and a soul, and eyes to see us with; and approvals, and solicitudes, and deep sympathies; it is of us, and we are in its confidence, and live in its grace and in the peace of its benediction. We never come home from an absence that its face does not light up and speak out its eloquent welcome—and we can not enter it unmoved."
—Mark Twain, 1896

Journal entry

Well, it’s been a couple days now but *Jacque is settled in nicely. Preparing his ‘bed’ took some doing as we had a bit of a quandary as to how we were going to accommodate his ‘stature’ but the predicament worked itself out, and all is well that ends well.

While we were out front the other day, Janet strolled by, and of course she just had to meet our new housemate, Jacque. She lives around the corner with her little dachshund who is about the size of a needle. Her dog likes to wander around in her yard without a leash, so whenever Oz and I are out for our walk, Janet will pick-up whatever-her-name-is, and say to me, as she is eye-balling all 125 pounds of Ozzy, “This is for his protection.”

(This is not whatever-her-name-is.
I got this picture off the internet)

                                           (This is, however, Ozzy)

Today the sky was gray and the air chilly, but even so, I pulled on a sweater and headed over to George’s with my trusty wheel-barrel. He has river rock in abundance on his property, and graciously told me to help myself. So help myself I did indeed. I was able to finish the narrow walk-way I blazed through my back yard, with river rocks instead of the Pea Pebbles originally slated for that area. And, if I do say so myself……….I am pleased with the outcome. Good ole George. He is a bit of a character but an interesting egghead, even if he does always manage to find himself in the mix of things.

Peggy, whose Nursery is the only game in town, was out trolling the streets in her truck today. When she saw me pushing my rock filled wheel-barrel, she slowed just enough for a wave hello and a yell, “I love how all ‘my’ plants look in your garden!” Of course we had a laugh as she drove off.

I love this neighborhood!!!

"I see you found your Birch ~ He looks great!"
(Peggy couldn't order just one, and we didn't want
five, so we got Jacque in Coos Bay).
