For the past few months, I have been reading blogs, with particular interest, of several persons of intellectual means. In the beginning, I looked forward to reading a new post from them. It was exciting to know that I was able to hold my own and relate to many of their discussions, but over time, my interest began to waver, and my ‘involvement‘ so to speak, began to distance itself. Similar to backing away from a relationship you found appealing and copasetic in the beginning, only to discover you have nothing in common with this person whatsoever. Even to the point of wondering what on earth did you ever find appealing in the first place.
Wikipedia defines the word intellectual as "a person who uses intelligence (thought and reason) and analytical thinking, either in a professional or a personal capacity." And further goes on to say that an " ‘Intellectual’ can denote three types of persons:
1. A man or woman involved in, and with, abstract, erudite ideas and theories.
2. A person whose profession (science, medicine, law, literature) solely involves the production and dissemination of ideas.
and
3. A person of notable cultural and artistic expertise whose knowledge grants him or her intellectual authority in public discourse. "
Have you ever wondered where all the pale faced, cadre of pretentious and sycophantic living-off-their-trust-fund intellectuals end up? (Of course, since I headily relate to the literary, it is to them, mostly, to whom I refer) This week, they can be found in the Blogosphere, along with other ‘charming’ literati, discussing Gaddis’ The Recognitions, within, of course, the conceited circle of high-brow contentions. If you have a mind to avail yourself of a brilliant piece of literary genius, here is a taste of Gaddis' book, without disputation.
I spark a joint and soak in all the pseudo-intellectualism that appears before me on my laptop screen, and wonder, am I one of these? A pseudo-literary with no where to go but here? Inside the words of the ‘charming‘??
A Cosmologist blogger, keeping my company, refers to Johann Sebastian Bach as though they were friends, and another, a Professor of Physics, can make you literally fall into unconsciousness, as she imbibes nouns with verbs into a lengthy discussion, ad nausea, about the art of mixology, and the perfect Martini.
Who are these people?
Shaking my head with a smile on my face, in relief that I am not one of them after all, it’s time to take Oz for a walk into the faerie land where I live.

"I think you have a great blog but you are way more intellectual than me. If you havent already you should think about writing for publication and maybe profit. Book reviews, prose, poetry, etc. Im serious. I think you have a talent that needs to be shared beyond your blog."

I guess it depends on the purpose of the blog... for me, I've noticed a certain self-consciousness seeping into my blogging... but this is partly to do with the fact that I initially thought the blog would be a useful tool for my training stuff and coming to the conclusion that there are just too many 'unbloggables' in that sphere [slow of me d'oh!] plus the eyes of my assessors wander past the blog as well - inhibiting a little my sense of freedom.
So now trying to work out what the heck I do with it - I like the potential discipline of having to marshall my thoughts and yet find I don't really have many thoughts beyond John Knox to marshall these days which is not particularly interesting for folk, I suspect lol!
And Dwight has an excellent point - publish, publish... I'd buy it!
