"Most men lead lives of quiet desperation and go to the grave with the song still in them." --Thoreau
It’s been an interesting ride, this getting old. I have come to understand many things that youth could not have even imagined to be true. We all have secrets, don’t we? But the ones that are taken with us when we leave are the ones that define and explain us in no uncertain terms. Children wonder, and in that wonderment, fail to see what is in front of them until they become old themselves.
When we are young we perceive things in a light conducive to our own way of thinking. That‘s why each sibling sees their parents differently, one from the other. The truth, I'm afraid, lies somewhere in-between, somewhere within the secrets that are never spoken.
But alas, nothing matters except this: do what you must, in this life, to be happy.
It is inevitable that you will take with you a secret or two, but please.......don't take the song.

"For us, our house is not insentient matter—it has a heart, and a soul, and eyes to see us with; and approvals, and solicitudes, and deep sympathies; it is of us, and we are in its confidence, and live in its grace and in the peace of its benediction. We never come home from an absence that its face does not light up and speak out its eloquent welcome—and we can not enter it unmoved."
