It took me about two weeks to get through The Lost Symbol. It started out mediocre but I kept reading because The Da Vinci Code, and Angeles and Demons were a can’t-put-this-book-down-page-turner experience. I had hopes. Certainly, Dan Brown would not disappoint. But honestly, getting through the minutia of characters and trying to keep them all at bay through the many flashbacks in the storyline took its toll. Things started to sizzle right around the mid-way point, however, even though the lack of character development left something to be desired. There are some very interesting particulars about the Freemasons, a couple of unexpected developments and a shocker of an ending that will challenge the foundation of all religions. But I’ve given too much away. In the event you want to read this book, be prepared, as it is a slow read, and some of the so-called ‘facts’ are really not so factual. But this is, after all, a work of fiction, most of which is predictable.
