LOOK UP! There is still time

The clacking of thunder and a sudden burst of rain showers brought me back into this continuum this morning. It wasn’t an abrupt awakening so much as a soft slip from one parallel into another. Though I was awake, I had yet to open my eyes. I wiped the drool from the corner of my mouth with the back of my hand and listened, but it was still early as coast highway was silent of its usual rumble. The drone of logging trucks is the first sound of the day so I knew that it was not yet 5am.

I tried to go back into the deepness of a dream but it was already too late. The transition into the conscious mind had by now taken place. Then it hit me like a bolt! I jumped out of bed and ran downstairs and out the back door in my bare feet. I looked up into the sky but it was already too late. I missed it. I cannot believe I missed the Orionid meteor shower. Drat, my head was spinning from the sudden blurt down the stairs, so I sat, ruminating over the pre-dawn lightness of the sky and my abysmal and incredulous bad timing. Last night of all nights, I slept.

All right, calm down. Even though I missed the peak shower, there is still tonight. Albeit, it will not be as spectacular, but the trail of debris is pretty wide, so I will be able to see something. After all, if the Orionids are not as prevalent tonight, the bright winter constellations will still awe me. 

Ah, who am I kidding, I will be stewing about this all day.
