"For us, our house is not insentient matter—it has a heart, and a soul, and eyes to see us with; and approvals, and solicitudes, and deep sympathies; it is of us, and we are in its confidence, and live in its grace and in the peace of its benediction. We never come home from an absence that its face does not light up and speak out its eloquent welcome—and we can not enter it unmoved."
—Mark Twain, 1896

Friendship

Since beginning my distractions through the blog world, and most recently through the virtual atmosphere of facebook, I’ve noticed many ‘friends’ attaching themselves to particular facebook personalities. Oh, I’m not just talking about 5 or 6, some have over 1,000 ‘so-called friends’. Come on 1000+? Who even knows this many people, let alone have the privilege of being called a friend?

‘Friend’ must mean something different in cyberspace than in real-time. I always thought of a friend as being an ally. Though it is difficult to have a friend if you don’t know how to be one. (Case on-point)

What is your definition of a friend? Forget about facebook and all the zillions of blogs out there. In your life, do you have an ally, someone in your life with unconditional attributes? Relatives and spouses excluded as they are a given.

If you are not delusional, you will only be able to claim one, most, however, will have a difficult time coming up with even that.

C'è una frase a proposito che mi piace molto: L'unico modo di avere un amico è essere amico ( Ralph Emerson)
