"For us, our house is not insentient matter—it has a heart, and a soul, and eyes to see us with; and approvals, and solicitudes, and deep sympathies; it is of us, and we are in its confidence, and live in its grace and in the peace of its benediction. We never come home from an absence that its face does not light up and speak out its eloquent welcome—and we can not enter it unmoved."
—Mark Twain, 1896

Latina Today

A random comment I made in another blog was noticed and published, in part, by an Italian newspaper. The blog to which I refer is a controversial site.........stuffy at best. I follow the blog from Terracina, Italy (place of my youth). Mostly political but I like looking at the pictures and knowing what is going on there in these times. I made a comment and it generated hoopla I wasn't prepared for. Not only did they publish a blurb about it in one of the biggest newspapers in the area, but I have gotten feedback through other comments and private emails. Apparently they are not used to smiley faces in their blog!
This is a rough translation:

A comment in Terracinablog
The happy city
of my memories

She signs with the nickname Enchanted, it means encantato (enchanted). She speaks and writes only in english, (sic) but (through) her love of Terracina, she was able to express herself just the same in the Terracina blog. "Rather than comment on what is written, since my grasp of the Italian language has since escaped me, I comment on the photos. I came across your blog quite by accident or perhaps it was happenstance..." - the foreign visitor continues - "I remember the beauty of Terracina as it was in the 1960s, and recall the joy of it through Nonno's words as he told me the stories of his youth. Your pictures bring back the memories of my time there..." -continues- "and puts a visual content, in my mind, of Nonno's." In other words, in the midst of the fiery debates (going on) in the blog comes a voice of other, and perhaps, happier times. ...... (and) in few words concludes: I miss Terracina.

Wow!! Im so proud. I continue to be impressed and proud of the "woman" my mother is. You give me energy to carpi diem. The woman you are from the soul is a part of myself I look forward to finding as I grow in wisdom and knowledge. Thankyou
